The pharmacokinetic parameters obtained from sildenafil citrate-treated and healthy subjects were similar in the following way: the AUC decreased in the patients with ED; Cmax increased; and the t1/2 increased. The mean steady-state concentrations of sildenafil citrate were higher than those of sildenafil alone in the ED patients. The pharmacokinetic parameters obtained from sildenafil-treated and healthy subjects were similar in the following ways: the AUC decreased in the patients with ED; Cmax decreased; and the t1/2 decreased. Viagra, also called sildenafil, is the brand name for the drug tadalafil, which is also sold under the brand name Cialis. Cialis, which can be taken daily with or without food, is not approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Some men may experience side effects such as headaches, flushing and stomach upset. Other side effects include a slight increase in blood pressure and heart palpitations, and a slight increase in heart rate.
Men who take Viagra should stop taking it and see a doctor right away if they experience symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and dizziness, the FDA said.
“The risk of heart attack and stroke is greater with high doses of sildenafil,” the FDA said.
The FDA also is concerned about the safety of Viagra’s ability to increase blood pressure and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
It is not yet clear what effect Viagra has on people with heart disease.
